THE PAST PRESENT IN THE FUTURE. THE ATACAMA LINES is a video and sculptural installation by Atacama Desert Foundation, a multidisciplinary collective based in Chile. The group consists of archeologists, curators, film director and designer. They have been researching and making video installations to further interest in the nature and culture of the Andean desert. THE PAST PRESENT IN THE FUTURE. THE ATACAMA LINES brings the audience through time. It offers the contemporary reading of ancient geoglyphs dated back to 5,000 years ago. The work discussed the development of the geoglyphs from the point of view of the indigenous people, who went through a period of western colonization in the 15th century, and who are facing its extractivism legacy. It also draws visitors’ attention to the human ambition to conquer Mars, another desert planet in our solar system. In a sense, the work depicts not only the ancient past but also the possible image of the coming future.

อดีตปัจจุบันในทะเลทรายอนาคต ดิ อาตากามา ไลน์ เป็นผลงานจัดวางวีดีโอและประติมากรรมโดย มูลนิธิทะเลทรายอาตากามา กลุ่มสหวิทยาการจากประเทศชิลีที่ประกอบไปด้วย นักโบราณคดี ภัณฑารักษ์ นักสร้างภาพยนตร์ และนักออกแบบ พวกเขาได้ทำวิจัยและสร้างผลงานวีดีโอจัดวางเพื่อสร้างความรับรู้เกี่ยวกับธรรมชาติและวัฒนธรรมของเทือกเขาแอนดีส อดีตปัจจุบันในทะเลทรายอนาคต ดิ อาตากามา ไลน์ พาผู้ชมเดินทางข้ามเวลา ผลงานนำเสนอการอ่านขนบการทำภาพสลักโบราณที่มีอายุกว่า 5,000 ปี จากมุมมองของคนพื้นเมืองที่ผ่านประสบการณ์ของการถูกล่าอาณานิคมโดยชาวตะวันตกในคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 15 การล่าอาณานิคมดังกล่าวยังนำมาซึ่งการดูดเอาทรัพยากรธรรมชาติในปัจจุบัน ผลงานยังเชื่อมโยงผู้ชมเข้ากับความทะเยอทะยานของมนุษย์ที่จะพิชิตดาวอังคาร ดาวเคราะห์ที่ปกคลุมไปด้วยทะเลทรายในระบบสุริยะจักรวาล ผลงานไม่เพียงแสดงภาพของอดีต และยังแสดงภาพของอนาคตอันใกล้
