The Japanese architect, Junya Ishigami is known for projects that approach limitless and broad creative perspectives. Regardless of their scale, they are capable of rendering and delivering unique and inspiring outcomes. He has won many prizes, including the Architectural Institute of Japan’s Prize for Architectural Design and the Golden Lion for Best Project at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale.
For Thailand Biennale, he proposed an architectural project, “Rainbow Carpet,” an arcshaped bridge crossing over the old moat of ancient Korat city. The bridge measures 77m wide and 30m long, with an area of 2,310 square meters. The “Carpet” will be made by sewing local bricks together with a steel wire passing through their holes. Thus, fastening the massive number of bricks together and reinforcing the arched brick construction. The thin brick membrane will float as if wafting on the breeze. This rainbow carpet covering the canal, people can take refuge from the intense sunlight. They are able to enjoy the light streaming down, while spending a quiet afternoon in the comfortable embrace of the shade and gazing at the sky from the canal bank.
This ongoing project is introduced through a model in the Art Gallery and Exhibition near the canal. The proposed new landscape bridges both Korat’s history and it’s future.

สถาปนิกชาวญี่ปุ่น จุนยะ อิชิงามิ เป็นที่รู้จักจากผลงานซึ่งไร้ขีดจำกัดและมีมุมมองสร้างสรรค์อันกว้างขวาง ไม่ว่าผลงานจะมีขนาดเท่าใด อิชิงามิก็สามารถแสดงและถ่ายทอดผลลัพธ์เฉพาะตัวที่แสนกินใจออกมาได้ เขาได้รับรางวัลมาแล้วมากมาย ซึ่งรวมไปถึงรางวัลการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรม จากสถาบันสถาปัตยกรรมแห่งประเทศญี่ปุ่น และรางวัลสิงโตทองคำสำหรับโครงการที่ดีที่สุด จากมหกรรมผลงานสถาปัตยกรรมเวนิสเบียนนาเล่ ครั้งที่ 12
สำหรับไทยแลนด์เบียนนาเล่ ศิลปินนำเสนอผลงานสถาปัตยกรรม พรมสีรุ้ง (Rainbow Carpet) ผ่านรูปทรงโค้งของสะพานข้ามคูเมืองเมืองโบราณของเมืองโคราช ตัวสะพานมีขนาดกว้าง 77 เมตร ยาว 30 เมตร และมีพื้นที่รวม 2,310 ตารางเมตร “พรม” จะถูกเย็บต่อขึ้นจากก้อนอิฐที่ผลิตในท้องถิ่น โดยใช้เหล็กเส้นสอดเข้าไปตามรูเพื่อยึดอิฐจำนวนมหาศาลเข้าด้วยกันและเสริมความแข็งแกร่งให้แก่โครงสร้างโค้ง เยื่ออิฐบาง ๆ จะลอยล่องราวกับโล้ไปตามสายลม เบื้องล่างพรมสีรุ้งที่ปกคลุมลำคลองสายนี้ คือสถานที่ที่ผู้คนสามารถหลบลี้จากแสงแดดอันแรงกล้า เพลิดเพลินไปกับแสงซึ่งส่องลงมา ขณะใช้เวลาช่วงบ่ายอันเงียบสงบในอ้อมกอดของร่มเงาและแหงนมองท้องฟ้าจากริมฝั่งคลอง
โครงการผลงานศิลปะต่อเนื่องชุดนี้ยังถูกจัดแสดงในรูปแบบจำลอง ผ่านนิทรรศการในหอศิลป์บริเวณใกล้คูเมืองโบราณ ซึ่งภูมิทัศน์แห่งใหม่นี้ จะเป็นสะพานเชื่อมต่อประวัติศาสตร์และอนาคตของโคราชเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน

Junya Ishigami’s Vision
“A carpet resembling a rainbow.
Forming an arc like a rainbow, spread thinly over a large area like a carpet.
A rainbow carpet will be installed by the canal in front of the Art Gallery.
A vast carpet 77m wide and 30m deep, with an area of 2310m2, that will billow up from the ground to a height of five meters, as if floating above the water.
The rainbow carpet will be made by sewing bricks together with wire. Holes will be made in the bricks, and steel wire of 1cm diameter passed through them, fastening the huge number of bricks together, and reinforcing the arched brick construction. Thus a very thin brick membrane will float lightly as if wafting on the breeze.

Large holes made in this large membrane will offer views of the sparkling water below.
On this rainbow carpet floating up from the streets, people will distance themselves from the bustle of the city, and relax for a while.
Beneath the rainbow carpet covering the canal, people will take refuge from the intense sunlight, and gazing upon the sky from the canal bank, enjoy the light streaming down, and spend a quiet afternoon in the comfortable embrace of the shade.
The rainbow carpet will be a new public open space for Nakhon Ratchasima.

“พรมสีรุ้ง
ตัวสะพานจะมีรูปทรงโค้งเหมือนสายรุ้งและแผ่ทั่วบริเวณกว้างเหมือนพรม
โดยผลงานชิ้นนี้จะติดตั้งริมคลองหน้าหอศิลป์
สะพานที่เป็นพรมผืนใหญ่นี้ กว้าง 77 ม. และลึก 30 ม. และมีพื้นที่รวม 2,310 ตร.ม. โดยจะลอยขึ้นจากพื้นถึงความสูง 5 เมตร และทำให้ตัวสะพานดูเหมือนลอยอยู่เหนือน้ำ
พรมสีรุ้งจะทำโดยการเย็บอิฐด้วยลวด จะทำรูในอิฐ
พรมจะถูกเย็บต่อขึ้นจากก้อนอิฐ โดยใช้เหล็กเส้น ขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 1 ซม. สอดเข้าไปตามรูที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นในก้อนอิฐเพื่อยึดก้อนอิฐจำนวนมหาศาลเข้าด้วยกัน ทำให้ก้อนอิฐจำนวนมากวามารถลอยอยู่เหนือน้ำได้ ราวกับเป็นพรมที่ล่องลอยอยู่ในสายลม

ช่องวงกลมขนาดใหญ่ที่สะพานจะทำให้สามารถมองเห็นประกายของน้ำที่ส้อนกับแสงแดดได้
และบนพรมสีรุ้งที่ลอยขึ้นมาจากถนนนี้ ผู้คนจะสามารถปลีกตัวออกจากความวุ่นวายของเมืองและพักผ่อนได้ชั่วขณะ
ภายใต้พรมสีรุ้งที่ปกคลุมลำคลอง ผู้คนจะสามารถหลบหลีกจากแสงแดดที่แรงกล้า และแหงนมองท้องฟ้าจากริมคลอง เพลิดเพลินกับแสงที่ส่องลงมา และใช้เวลายามบ่ายอันเงียบสงบภายใต้ร่มเงาอันแสนสบาย
พรมสีรุ้งจะเป็นพื้นที่สาธารณะแห่งใหม่ของนครราชสีมา
