Somsed Temporary Cultural Centre is a participatory-based project by Italian artist Giacomo ZAGANELLI. His practice is structured around social engagement and public intervention. For Thailand Biennale, ZAGANELLI founds Somsed Temporary Cultural Centre in the middle of the ancient city in Nakorn Ratchasima province. With the help of local arts collectives and municipality, the artist converts an abandoned house into a public space during the period of the biennale. He invites arts and cultural entities in the city, varies from educational intuition to breakdance group to use the house. Somsed is a Thai name for Malayan tapir, a common mammal inhabited in tropical forest of Southeast Asia. It translated as “completely mixed” as one could always find characteristic of other animals in it. The name signified an ambition of the space to be unsettled and open. ZAGANELLI also influenced by the biography of Corrado Feroci, an Italian artist, who came to Thailand in the beginning of the 20th century and laid a foundation for Modern Art in Thailand.

โครงการศิลปะแบบมีส่วนร่วมไทยแลนด์เบียนนาเล่ โคราช 2021 คอมมิชชัน
ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมชั่วคราวสมเสร็จ เป็นโครงการศิลปะแบบมีส่วนร่วม (participatory-based project) ของศิลปินชาวอิตาลี จีอากาโม ชัคคาเนลลี รูปแบบการการทำงานศิลปินจะอิงอยู่กับการมีส่วนรวมของชุมชนและการแทรกแซงของสาธารณะ ในงานไทยแลนด์เบียนนาเล่ครั้งนี้ ชัคคาเนลลีก่อตั้งศูนย์วัฒนธรรมชั่วคราวสมเสร็จใจกลางเขตเมืองเก่าของจังหวัดนครราชสีมา โครงการนี้ได้รับความช่วยเหลือจากศูนย์ศิลปะและเทศบาลในท้องถิ่น ศิลปินจะเปลี่ยนบ้านร้างให้กลายเป็นพื้นที่สาธารณะตลอดการจัดงานเบียนนาเล่ และเชิญชวนองค์กรศิลปะและวัฒนธรรม สถาบันการศึกษา และกลุ่มนักเต้นเบรกแดนซ์มาใช้พื้นที่
สมเสร็จ มีชื่อสามัญว่า malayan tapir เป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมที่อาศัยอยู่ในป่าเขตร้อนของประเทศในแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ที่มาของชื่อสมเสร็จมาจากคำว่า “ประสมจนเสร็จ” เพราะมีลักษณะของสัตว์หลายชนิดผสมรวมอยู่ในสัตว์ชนิดนี้ นอกจากนี้ชื่อ สมเสร็จ ยังหมายถึงจุดมุ่งหมายของศูนย์ที่ต้องการเป็นพื้นที่เปิดกว้างและไม่ยึดติดกับสิ่งใด ชัคคาเนลลี ยังได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากประวัติของ คอร์ราโด เฟโรชี (ศิลป์ พีระศรี) ศิลปินชาวอิตาลีที่เดินทางยังมาประเทศไทยในช่วงต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 และเป็นบิดาผู้วางรากฐานให้กับศิลปะสมัยใหม่ในไทย
