Not Really Now Not Anymore by Austrian artist Herwig SCHERABON is a reckoning with a changing reality. Disruptive events on species level, like pandemics and volcanic eruptions, make the mind revaluate everything it thought it knew. This multimedia artwork resembles the memory of a displaced and distorted reality in digital space — it is the experience of change flattened into video format.

Using different terrain and object scanning techniques, the artist spent a month on the island of La Palma in the Atlantic Ocean to record and document its landscape, ecosystem, and fragile, volcano-riddled geography. The material, spanning 3D-scans, sound recordings, and drone footage, was then turned into a 2-channel audio visual installation that holds all of the material essence of the place —  like digital shadows of the actual place

In the center of the installation is a terrarium containing a self-sustaining ecosystem as a reference to our encapsulated view of the “world”. The terrarium is extended into digital space with an intervention in augmented reality that can be seen via smartphone.

SCHERABON’s installation questions how we could construct reality in an era of ecological collapse. It also shows the potential to adjust and create alternate realities that involve the landscape and plant life surrounding us.

“Not Really Now Not Anymore” เป็นผลงานของศิลปินชาวออสเตรีย แฮร์วิก เชอราบอน ที่พูดถึงความตระหนักรู้เกี่ยวกับความเป็นจริงที่เปลี่ยนไป เหตุการณ์ความวุ่นวายที่เกิดในระดับสายพันธุ์เช่นโรคระบาดและการปะทุของภูเขาไฟ ทำให้เราต้องตั้งสติย้อนมาประเมินทุกอย่างที่คิดว่าเคยรู้ ผลงานมัลติมีเดียชิ้นนี้รวบรวมความทรงจำเกี่ยวกับความเป็นจริงที่ขาดหายและบิดเบี้ยวไว้ในพื้นที่ที่ดิจิตอล เป็นประสบการณ์ความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ถูกทำให้แบนระนาบไปเป็นสื่อวิดีโอ

ศิลปินใช้ภูมิทัศน์ที่หลากหลายและเทคนิคการสแกนวัตถุในการสร้างผลงาน เชอราบอนใช้เวลา 1 เดือนบนเกาะ ลา ปาลมา ในคาบสมุทรแอทแลนติก เพื่อถ่ายและบันทึกข้อมูลลักษณะทางกายภาพของพื้นที่ ระบบนิเวศน์ และภูมิประเทศที่บอบบางและเต็มไปด้วยหลุมจากภูเขาไฟ  จากนั้นองค์ประกอบต่างๆ ระยะสแกนสามมิติ เสียง ภาพถ่ายจากโดรน จึงแปลงเป็นผลงานศิลปะจัดวางโสตทัศน์แสดงผ่าน 2 จอภาพ ผลงานนี้เป็นการรวบรวมองค์ประกอบแก่นแท้ทั้งหมดของพื้นที่ คล้ายเงาดิจิตอลของพื้นที่จริง

ตรงกลางของพื้นที่ผลงานคือสวนขวดโหลเทอราเรียมที่มีระบบนิเวศน์สมบูรณ์ในตัวเอง อ้างอิงถึงมุมมองของมนุษย์ที่มีต่อโลก สวนขวดโหลเทอราเรียมนี้สามารถรับชมแบบดิจิตอลได้ในผ่านเทคโนโลยีเสมือนจริง (AR) ผ่านโทรศัพท์สมาร์ทโฟน

ศิลปะการจัดวางของเชอราบอนทำให้เราตั้งคำถามว่า เราจะสร้างความเป็นจริงได้อย่างไรในยุคที่ระบบนิเวศน์ล่มสลาย ผลงานนี้ยังแสดงให้เห็นถึงศักยภาพในการปรับตัวและสร้างความจริงทางเลือก ที่เกี่ยวกับภูมิประเทศและพืชพรรณที่รายล้อมอยู่รอบตัวเรา
