Korat Metropolis No. 1 and Korat Metropolis No. 2 are two large-scale paintings by Kwanchai Lichaikul, a Bangkok-based Thai artist. His work originates from observing his surroundings; nature, society, and people. These observations are done before exploring his inner thoughts and expanding his imagination. He then creates works with the simplistic yet elaborate technique of black ink. The composition of his work is influenced by traditional mural painting which used sensinthao to separate space yet combines them into one continuous time. Korat Metropolis No. 1 and Korat Metropolis No. 2 are the artist’s contemplation on Nakhon Ratchasima province. Kwanchai combines scenery with the different inspirational materials of folklore, history, photographs, and experiences. He created two paintings which present two panoramic views of the city and the province. The audience is encouraged to enjoy little details that the artist hides inside the vast landscape. The work is presented in the corridor that leads to the archive room of the King Rama IX commemorative library which houses the treasury of knowledge on the province itself.

โคราชมหานคร หมายเลข.1 และ โคราชมหานคร หมายเลข.2 เป็นผลงานจิตรกรรมขนาดใหญ่ 2 ภาพโดยขวัญชัย ลิไชยกุล ศิลปินชาวไทยผู้พำนักอยู่ในกรุงเทพฯ ผลงานของเขาเกิดขึ้นจากการสังเกตสภาพแวดล้อมรอบตัว ตั้งแต่ธรรมชาติ สังคม ไปจนถึงผู้คน ก่อนที่จะสำรวจความคิดภายในและต่อยอดจินตนาการไปสู่การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานด้วยเทคนิคหมึกดำที่เรียบง่ายทว่าประณีตละเอียดอ่อน องค์ประกอบในผลงานขวัญชัย ได้รับอิทธิพลจากจิตรกรรมฝาผนังแบบประเพณี ซึ่งใช้เส้นสินเทาเพื่อแบ่งพื้นที่ แต่ก็รวมภาพทั้งภาพไว้ในคราเดียวกัน ภาพ โคราชมหานคร หมายเลข.1 และ โคราชมหานคร หมายเลข.2  เป็นการเพ่งพินิจของศิลปินต่อจังหวัดนครราชสีมา ขวัญชัยผสมผสานทัศนียภาพจากแหล่งข้อมูลต่าง ๆ เช่น นิทานพื้นบ้าน ประวัติศาสตร์ ภาพถ่าย และประสบการณ์ สร้างภาพพาโนรามาสองภาพ ซึ่งนำเสนอทัศนียภาพอันงดงามของเมืองและตัวจังหวัด ผู้ชมยังสามารถเพลิดเพลินไปกับรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ ที่ศิลปินซุกซ่อนไว้ในภูมิทัศน์อันกว้างใหญ่ ผลงานชุดนี้จัดแสดง ณ โถงทางเดินของหอสมุดแห่งชาติเฉลิมพระเกียรติ ร.9 ซึ่งนำไปสู่ห้องเก็บเอกสารที่เป็นคลังความรู้ของจังหวัดนั่นเอง
