WICHAYA is a sculptor whose interest in Isan’s legends and myths has prompted him to study history of the region through the intertwining channels of the Mekong, Chi and Mun rivers that can be traced back to ancient civilisations up to the present. In addition to myths and legends, WICHAYA also has an interest in human’s inner psyche. The artist uses clay as his main material, for clay is the origin of life that reminds us of the origin of human itself.

The power of narrative and imagination is created by the similar method of history making of human ancestors, whose thoughts and imagination were woven into stories, legends and myths and told through the pictorial language. This sculptural series takes the lores of Nakhon Ratchasima as compiled by Prince Damrong Rajanubhab as a major source, including the lion pelf that becomes the namesake of the province and the faces of a man, a woman and a child that alludes to family. Made from terracotta and resin and placed in the middle of a pond, the glittering sunlight that reflects on the surface of the water creates another dynamic dimension that implies the richness of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

ประติมากรที่มีความสนใจในเรื่องเล่าและตำนานของวัฒนธรรมอีสาน ศึกษาประวัติศาสตร์ความเป็นมาของภูมิภาคผ่านความสัมพันธ์ที่ไหลผ่านลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง ชี และมูล ย้อนเรื่องราวกลับไปถึงอารยธรรมโบราณที่ถูกส่งต่อมายังปัจจุบัน นอกจากเรื่องเล่าและตำนานแล้วประสิทธิ์ยังมีความสนใจในเรื่องสภาวะภายในจิตใจของมนุษย์ ประสิทธิ์ใช้ดินเป็นวัสดุหลักในการสร้างผลงาน ดินที่เป็นต้นกำเนิดของสรรพชีวิต เพื่อให้ตระหนักถึงต้นกำเนิดของมนุษย์เรา

พลังของเรื่องเล่าและจินตนาการร่วม ผลงานที่เกิดจากการนำกลวิธีการสร้างประวัติศาสตร์ของมนุษย์สมัยโบราณที่เชื่อมโยงความคิดและจินตนาการสร้างเรื่องราว สื่อผ่านภาษาภาพที่มีความยืดหยุ่น ผูกโยงเป็นเรื่องเล่า ตำนาน ความเชื่อ ที่มาของเมืองนครราชสีมาต่อคนรุ่นหลัง โดยผลงานประติมากรรมชุดนี้นำเรื่องเล่าเมืองนครราชสีมาของ สมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพ มาเป็นองค์ประกอบหลัก ทั้งเรื่องของหนังราชสีห์ที่กลายเป็นที่มาของชื่อจังหวัด ประกอบกับใบหน้าของชาย หญิง และเด็กที่สื่อถึงครอบครัว  ประติมากรรมสร้างจากดินเผาและเรซินติดตั้งกลางบ่อน้ำ แสงจากดวงอาทิตย์สะท้อนบนผิวน้ำ สร้างมิติเกิดการเคลื่อนไหวสื่อสารถึงความอุดมสมบูรณ์ของจังหวัดนครราชสีมา
