Shuttle Stories is a community-engaged textile project by Slowstitch studio. Based in Chiang Mai, they are textile designers who combine modern motifs with traditional handcraft. The studio specializes in natural dyes. For Thailand Biennale, the artist worked with local weaving communities in the Pak Thong Chai district. Based on familiar local and traditional motifs, silk yarns from Korat were prepared using ikat techniques to tie off various sections of the yarns. The prepared yarns were later sent to the studio to be dyed using their unique techniques. The dyed yarns then returned to the weavers who spun the yarns into spools, arranged them and wove the fabrics on their looms. The works serve as an encapsulation of a dialogue and a blending of multiple perspectives – different viewpoints of the same craft – some looking from the lens of contemporary textiles and others rooted in more traditional origins, but all working together in tandem to highlight the value of handcrafted community-based textiles.

เล่าเรื่องผ่านกระสวย เป็นโครงการสิ่งทอแบบชุมชนมีส่วนร่วมโดย สโลว์สติตช์ สตูดิโอ กลุ่มนักออกแบบสิ่งทอจากเชียงใหม่ ซึ่งรวมเอารูปแบบสมัยใหม่กับทักษะหัตถกรรมประเพณีเข้าด้วยกัน พวกเขามีความเชี่ยวชาญพิเศษในเรื่องการย้อมสีด้วยวัสดุธรรมชาติ สำหรับไทยแลนด์ เบียนนาเล่ ศิลปินทำงานร่วมกับชุมชนทอผ้าท้องถิ่นในอำเภอปักธงชัย โดยท้องถิ่นจะเตรียมเส้นไหมด้วยการมัดส่วนต่าง ๆ ตามลวดลายดั้งเดิม แล้วส่งให้กับศิลปินเพื่อย้อมสีธรรมชาติด้วยเทคนิคพิเศษของศิลปิน ก่อนศิลปินจะส่งเส้นไหมที่ถูกมัดยอมแล้วกลับมาเข้าสู่กระบวนการปั่นด้ายกรอไหมเพื่อนำไปสู่กระบวนการทอด้วยกี่พื้นบ้านต่อไป ผลงานนั้นเป็นการห่อหุ้มของบทสนทนาและการร่วมกันของมุมมองที่หลากหลายในเชิงช่างเดียวกัน ที่ส่วนหนึ่งมองจากมุมของสิ่งทอร่วมสมัยและอีกส่วนมองจากรากฐานของประเพณี แต่ทำงานร่วมกันแบบคู่ขนานเพื่อแสดงให้เห็นถึงคุณค่าของสิ่งทอมือชุมชน
