The Mammoth Rehearsal Sessions is a site-specific participatory-based performance by Superflex, an art collective from Denmark. The group is well-known for creating novel, audience-driven installations, performances, and programs relating to capitalism and environmental crisis. Responding to the site at the Fossil Museum in Korat, the artists proposed to organize a series of hypnosis programs titled The Mammoth Rehearsal Sessions. They invite the audience to join a hypnosis session, in which they could imagine themselves as mammoths which were driven to extinction by climate change. It opens the possibility of challenging the perspective that humans are the center of the world. The work belongs to the interspecies series that the artists developed as a response to the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference. The work attempts to urge humans to experience climate changes through the eyes of an animal – the eagle, the jellyfish, the polar bear, the mosquito and the mammoth. The sessions are organized in collaboration with the Fossil Museum and Art Therapist’s Association.
