Yllang MONTENEGRO is a feminist and independent artist from the Philippines and was a migrant worker in Japan. As a self-taught artist, she founded Empowerment Through Art in 2017, a collective that raises funds for grassroots organizations and aspiring artists from low-income families. Her project Skinship is an installation of interconnected aprons with plants, indicating physical intimacy, time, patience, and reciprocal care in the ongoing pandemic. When the artist was a migrant worker in Japan, she was inspired by the term “Skinship,” a Japanese wordplay on “skin” and “kinship,” referring to relationships that involve touch or physical contact. The aprons are produced in Buklod Tao, a Filipino non-profit organization established to respond to disasters and enhance their environment; they are sustainable products made of Zest-o packs – repurposed aluminum laminated plastic juice packs. In collaboration with Bucklod Tao and Rajamangala University of Technology of Isan, Montenegro’s project is presented in the Pavilion at Thao Suranari Memorial Park in Korat City center.  This symbolic project redirects physical interspecies communication severely damaged through the pandemic while reconnecting the nurturing energies back to nature.

อีแยง มอนเตเนโกร เป็นศิลปินอิสระที่เรียนรู้ด้วยตนเอง นักสตรีนิยม และอดีตแรงงานอพยพชาวฟิลิปปินส์ในประเทศญี่ปุ่น ในฐานะศิลปิน เธอได้ก่อตั้ง Empowerment Through Art ขึ้นในปี ค.ศ. 2017 ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มที่ระดมทุนให้กับองค์กรระดับรากหญ้าและศิลปินผู้มีความใฝ่ฝันจากครอบครัวที่มีรายได้น้อย โครงการศิลปะ สกินชิพ คือผลงานจัดวางที่แสดงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผ้ากันเปื้อนหลายๆ ผืนที่เย็บเข้าด้วยกันและพืชพันธ์ุ บ่งบอกถึงความใกล้ชิดทางกายภาพ เวลา ความอดทน และการดูแลซึ่งกันและกันในช่วงการระบาดใหญ่ของไวรัสที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ เมื่อครั้งที่ศิลปินเป็นแรงงานอพยพในญี่ปุ่น เธอได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากคำว่า “Skinship” ซึ่งเป็นการเล่นคำของคนญี่ปุ่นระหว่างคำว่า “skin” และ “kinship” ซึ่งหมายถึงความสัมพันธ์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการสัมผัสกันทางกาย ผ้ากันเปื้อนผลิตโดย บัคล็อด ตาโอ (Buklod Tao) องค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรของฟิลิปปินส์ที่จัดตั้งขึ้นเพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือยามเกิดภัยพิบัติและเสริมสร้างสภาพแวดล้อม ผ้ากันเปื้อนเหล่านี้เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ที่นำซองเครื่องดื่มเซสท์-โอ (Zest-o) มาใช้ซ้ำ ผลงานของมอนเตเนโกรจัดแสดงในศาลา ณ อุทยานอนุสรณ์ท้าวสุรนารีใจกลางเมืองโคราชโดยความร่วมมือระหว่างบัคล็อด ตาโอและมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลอีสาน ผลงานเชิงสัญลักษณ์ชุดนี้เปลี่ยนแปลงแนวทางการสื่อสารทางกายภาพระหว่างสายพันธุ์ซึ่งเสียหายอย่างรุนแรงจากการแพร่ระบาดของไวรัส ในขณะเดียวกันก็เชื่อมโยงพลังงานที่หล่อเลี้ยงกลับคืนสู่ธรรมชาติ
