In 2019, commissioned by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage, Japanese photographer Rinko KAWAUCHI participated in an Olympic Day Festa organized by the Japanese Olympic Committee, an event aimed at connecting Olympic athletes with disaster-affected communities in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. KAWAUCHI photographed the children in the Tohoku region, devoting themselves to various sports. KAWAUCHI imagined the children and their future through an observation of the spirit that the Olympics can help strengthen.  Her clear and sensitive images capture the hope for recovery and rebirth from the disasters and underscore the joy and healing that can be found in the practice of sport and the friendships it fosters, and serve as a reminder of the fragile and precious gifts of nature. 

Ms. KAWAUCHI’s works are part of Olympism Made Visible, an international photography initiative led by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage to promote dialogue around timeless Olympic values and their impact when sport is placed at the service of humankind through community-based development programmes around the world, and to help bring visibility to critical issues that call for global solidarity and engagement. The photographs were first presented to the public in a special exhibition commissioned by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage for the Olympic Agora in Tokyo in 2021. The installation was later adapted for presentation at the Thailand Biennale.

ในปี 2019 มูลนิธิโอลิมปิกเพื่อวัฒนธรรมและมรดก ว่าจ้างช่างภาพ รินโกะ คาวาอุชิ ให้ถ่ายภาพในงานโอลิมปิก เดย์ เฟสต้า ซึ่งจัดโดยคณะกรรมาธิการโอลิมปิก งานนี้จัดขึ้นเพื่อเชื่อมโยงนักกีฬาเข้ากับชุมชนที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากภัยพิบัติสึนามิและแผ่นดินไหวใน ค.ศ. 2011 คาวาอุชิถ่ายภาพเด็ก ๆ ในจังหวัดโทโฮคุที่กำลังเล่นกีฬาอย่างทุ่มเท เธอจินตนาการเด็กๆและอนาคตของพวกเขา โดยสังเกตพลังใจของนักกีฬาที่มีเพิ่มขึ้นจากการจัดงานโอลิมปิก ผลงานเธอนั้นชัดเจน อ่อนไหว ถ่ายทอดความหวังที่ฟื้นคืนมาใหม่จากความสนุกที่ได้เล่นกีฬาและมิตรภาพที่เกิดขึ้น ภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้เปรียบเหมือนการย้ำเตือนให้ผู้ชมเห็นถึงของขวัญจากธรรมชาติที่ทั้งเปราะบางและมีค่า

ผลงานของคาวาอุชิเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในงาน โอลิมปิซึม เมด วิซิเบิล นิทรรศการภาพถ่ายนานาชาติ ที่จัดโดยมูลนิธิโอลิมปิกเพื่อวัฒนธรรมและมรดก เพื่อนำเสนอคุณค่าของงานโอลิมปิกและประโยชน์ของกีฬาต่อมนุษยชาติผ่านโครงการพัฒนาชุมชนทั่วโลก และเพื่อแสดงถึงความสามัคคีเป็นอันหนึ่งอันเดียวกันในสากล  ผลงานภาพถ่ายชุดนี้นำเสนอต่อสาธารณะชนเป็นครั้งแรกในงานโอลิมปิกที่กรุงโตเกียว ค.ศ. 2021 ผลงานนี้ได้ถูกปรับเพื่อให้เหมาะกับการแสดงในนิทรรศการไทยแลนด์เบียนนาเล่ในเวลาต่อมา
